Naboo

Naboo was geographically unique world in the galaxy. A plasmic molten outer core surrounded an inner core, believed to be composed primarily of a nickel-iron alloy, with very small amounts of some other elements. These elements were found in abundance in other chemical compositions in the galaxy, but it is the unique properties of the plasma which interested astrophysicists, plasma which the two primary civilizations harnessed to supply clean and efficient energy highly valued throughout the galaxy.

Finding that this plasma could be used as energy source, the Naboo agreed to have the powerful Trade Federation buy the plasma at fixed prices, but the Trade Federation took advantage of the Naboo’s naivety and sold the plasma for greatly marked up prices, selling the Naboo short. Once realizing the inequitable trading treaty, the Naboo protested and wished to be free of the contract, being the first to protest, many planets soon followed in protest towards the Trade Federation, thus forcing the Old Republic Senate create a taxation of interstellar trade routes to outlying star systems. This action lead by planet Naboo was perceived by the Trade Federation leadership as a threat to their commercial interests and power, and answered with a military blockade of Naboo, and subsequent invasion with the aim of forcing Naboo into subservience and to intimidate the Senate into repealing the taxation measure. It would be the combine forces of Jedi and Naboo-Gungan Alliance to defeat the Trade Federation forces.

During the early years of the Empire, Queen Kylantha came to power when Queen Apailana was mysteriously assassinated. Kylantha did not favor a return to the Old Republic (suspected to have Separatist sympathies), neither was she an Imperial proponent. Shortly after ascending the throne, she ordered a discreet investigation into the death of her predecessor, learning that the Empire had a hand in her death. Maintaining the status quo, Kylantha was careful not to antagonize Imperial relations, but secretly she organized the Naboo résistance to fight the Imperial domination.

After the destruction of Alderaan, Naboo became the new home for all Alderaanian refugees, making small villages like Midgar, to transform into a massive city in just few years. With Alderaanian refugees hate towards the Empire made the Imperial forces to focus away from Queen Kylantha, the Gungan leadership and rebel cells to successfully liberated Naboo after the news of Emperor Palpatine had died on Endor. It made perfect sense to Rebel Alliance, the Jedi and the Queen to make Naboo, the Rebel Alliance main headquarters.

Locations:

Theed
Theed, the capital city of Naboo. It is the crown jewel of the Naboo civilization, home to its greatest libraries, museums, shrines, theatres, conservatories, and education institutions. Built entirely in the unique Naboo architectural style, which features extensive use of porticos and domed roofs, Theed is the handiwork of the planet’s most skilled artisans, architects and urban planners.
The Solleu River is a large river which ran through Theed. The mighty river, adored by both Gungans and the Naboo, ended in Theed at Virdugo Plunge, the largest waterfall in the city. The Funeral Temple crossed the river, which was incorporated into a tradition where the ashes of the dead would be deposited into the river.

Important Location of Theed:
- Theed Royal Palace -
The Naboo city planners designed Theed to radiate outward from the Royal Palace, as though the city drew its very life from that building. Furthermore, the street layout and building designs ensure that palace dominates the skyline when viewed from virtually anywhere in the city. The palace is a stately edifice that gives the viewer an impression of strength and invokes the traditional architectural styles of the people it represents. Elegant, yet sturdy in construction, it expresses both the Naboo love of artistry and the strength of the planet’s ruler. Parks and surrounded the main building and the adjoining ones, and carefully landscape sculpture gardens conceal the perimeter stations of the Palace Guards. In the Palace Plaza the statues of Naboo’s most revered philosophers, artists and monarchs ring the palace and line the avenue that leads up to its broad steps. The Queen typically holds public ceremonies on these steps. When inclement weather prohibits this, the events take place in the cavernous hall just inside the main doors instead. It has also a private hangar.

- Palace Plaza -
The Palace Plaza was the name of a wide, open avenue that led from Theed Royal Palace an out into Theed city proper. The Triumphal Arch was a giant arch located in the middle of the Palace Plaza in front of the Theed Royal Palace entrance. It was through this arch, which in the year 19 BBY, Queen Amidala, then Senator, was drawn in a coffin, supposedly killed by a rogue Jedi, during the last year of the Old Republic. This act of mournful unity was the last great event before the full control of the Empire set in, only celebrating during victory of the Rebel Alliance at Endor and Naboo freeing from Imperial Control.

- Grand Plaza -
The Grand Plaza, is an area of Theed that fronted the Palace Plaza leading directly to the Royal Palace, it is six hundred meters in diameter. Despite situated near the palace, was no considered part of Palace proper. The Grand Plaza featured a central walkway spanning a circular area surrounded by a shallow moat crossed by hump-backed bridges. Around the perimeter of Grand Plaza were trees, fountains and a circular colonnade, featuring statues of the planet’s greatest philosophers and artists.

- Theed Spaceport -
The Theed Spaceport was built on the lowlands below the cliffs supporting the city of Theed and the royal hangars.  The speedy construction was funded by the settlements provided after the Trade Federation invasion, though the builders were careful to integrate the distinctive Naboo design aesthetic into their work. This public port has the facilities to manage a large volume of shuttle and freighter traffic, as well as the communication and sensor equipment needed to guide capital ships into orbit.

- Theed Generator Complex
This building looms over the horizon at the edge of the city, across the Solleu tributaries from the Royal Palace. Like all Theed’s buildings, this one has a grandeur all its own. Indeed, the plant appeared almost as regal as – and even more sturdy than – Naboo’s center of government. Visitors claim that its grace and style rival those of actual palaces on other worlds. The Theed Generator Complex operates constantly, mining and stabilizing the planet’s naturally occurring plasma from deep within its core. The generators’ output supplies government installations and key civilian structures all across the planet. Medical centers, schools, homes, and even the Theed Spaceport all pull their power from this facility (of course such institutions also have backup generators in case of emergency). Thus, the plant has become a symbol of Naboo unity, just like the monarch.

- Jedi Temple -

Situated in the outskirts of Theed, the Jedi Temple is composed of several buildings was built after the liberation of Naboo from Imperial Rule for the Jedi. Built by the Alderaanians, it was built after the Alderaan palace, as terms of honor the victims that died during the Alderaan destruction.
In the main area of the temple is made of several buildings where is located the private quarters, the Jedi Council and different training rooms. The Jedi Temple also has a great abundance of nature in the surrounding area, which provides the Jedi Master different possibilities in how to train their respective Padawans.

Midgar
For many centuries, Midgar was known the small village near Theed. After the destruction of Alderaan became the new home for Alderaan refugees and has it grew, so grew the clashes with Imperial forces. Once Naboo was liberated it quickly became the second most important city of the planet, due to its commercial and financial power that Alderaan refugees brought with them.

Important Location of Midgar:
- Midgar Central -
This district is located at the center of the city, and serves as the city’s main spaceport. The river that divides the district in two is located here. On one side, the luxury cruisers and ships belonging to wealthy people are allowed to land. On the other, the remaining ships set port. There is a local tax of 100 credits to land here, and if that amount is not paid the ship and its entire cargo are confiscated. There is a statue in honor of the victims who died in the Massacre of Midgar Central where Imperial forces fires indiscriminately at peaceful protestors.

- Midgar Park -
This district is known by its average commerce. It is here that a fair with the products of Naboo can be found, selling goods at reasonable prices. Also one might find products from outside worlds. There is one particular part of the fair that only sells products of Alderaan. Of course the products are grown and processed in Naboo, but to they are still an exact copy of the former ones from Alderaan. Many people come from other sides of the galaxy to buy these products. This park has a size of 59 Km2 (around 22 square miles).

- Midgar Heaven -
This district is far from the name it has acquired. It is the poorest district in all of Midgar, where the lowlifes, drug addicts, small time criminals, and homeless people can be found. The housing is cheap, but only for those who don’t mind living here from time to time, or don’t care for the violence and high chances of being robbed. It was here that many people celebrated the death of Emperor Palpatine, making the angry stormtrooper squadrons fire against them, this had the opposite effects since the locals revolted and battle against Imperial forces. Since then locals say that the liberation of Naboo started in this district.

- Midgar Stadium -
This stadium was built to host a very old sport named Brutball. This sport, native to Naboo, has gained fans all over the galaxy, after at the time Senator Palpatine himself saw a game once, that he enjoyed it so much that he took the sport to Coruscant and from there spread across the Galaxy. It is now a major sport, and many teams want to compete here for the legendary cup. The teams that win the cup have their names carved on the Legend’s Wall. Occasionally, this arena is used for variety of musical performances.

- Midgar Residence -
This is the largest district of them all, since it is where most people live. There is housing in the other districts, but here is where it is mostly concentrated. It is here the largest community of Alderaanian refugees live here. This has made the hate against the Empire grow in the last few years. It was here that many people celebrated the death of Emperor Palpatine, making the angry stormtrooper squadrons fire against the people. It is now Midgar’s major center of commerce.

Gungan Sacred Place

The Gungan Sacred Place is the name of a sacred monument on Naboo built by the Elders in the north part of the Lianorm Swamp. It is considered by the Gungans has holy place, however, its exact religious or practical significance is unknown. It was here where Boss Rugor Nass fled after the assault on Otoh Gunga by the Trade Federation. Queen Padmé Amidala on her return to Naboo with her escort, was guided there by Jar Jar Binks and formed the alliance and peace treaty between the Gungans and the Royal Naboo that lead them to defeat the Trade Federation.

Years later, when the Empire came to power, many Gungans and other refugees that escaped the iron grip of the Empire, found refuge in the Sacred Place. Now that Naboo was liberated the refugees return to their homes and the Gungans return to their only city, Otoh Gungan, leaving this place to nature. However it wasn’t completely abandoned because from time to time some Jedi can be found here, since under the plenty of waterfall, dense forests and lagoons, provides many possibilities of different training regime.

Otoh Gunga (aka Gungan City)
The main city of Gungans was established by Boss Gallo, 3000 years before the Invasion of Naboo on the site of an older Gungan city, Spearhead. Otoh Gunga is situated on Lake Paonga, on the edge of Lianorm Swamp. It is perhaps the only Gungan city that now still stands, because the Empire destroyed all other Gungan cities. The reason, that Otoh Gungan was remain intact is that the Empire found it had easy access to the mining of plasma, but also a scientific exploration was set here to study the deep sea of the Naboo. Now Otoh Gungan society is formed mainly by humans, but they co-exist peacefully with the neighbouring Gungans that was now safe to return to their only remaining city.

Lake Country
The Lake Country was a remote area of the planet Naboo that was dominated by beautiful lakes, surrounded by mountains and valleys. Wide meadows of grass and wildflowers sat among the waterfalls and lakes, and much of the planet’s native shaak population made their homes there. It was here that the Varykino retreat – a villa once owned by Omar Berenko, the Naberrie family and later by Queen Kylantha – was located.
When Panaka was nominated Moff of Naboo, he apprehended the Varykino villa from the Naberrie family and put has his own personal retreat. After the liberation of Naboo, Queen Kylantha took over the estate to be her personal retreat.
